Job Description:

Responsibilities

Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Senior Laboratory Technician to work within Wadsworth Center's New York's Newborn Screening Program. New York's Newborn Screening Program is a partner in the Federally funded "ScreenPlus" project. ScreenPlus (https://www.einsteinmed.edu/research/screenplus/screening/) is an internationally recognized, comprehensive, flexible, consented multi-disorder newborn screening program. This study aims to pilot screen for diseases that are under consideration for addition to the federally recommended uniform screening panel (RUSP). In this position, the incumbent will work with a team that includes physicians, scientists, an ethicist, and others who are experts in the field of newborn screening. The incumbent will play a key role preparing samples for testing, which uses state of the art liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry methods to screen for 14 conditions. This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center's mission in the New York State Department of Health's efforts to protect and promote the health of New York's citizens. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology; OR an Associate's degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology and two years of experience in a laboratory or clinical setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience performing biochemical assays; coursework in chemistry, biochemistry, human genetics, or molecular biology; experience working in a lab.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.


This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will not be available.

Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position. Therefore, the incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment including but not limited to nitrile gloves, a laboratory coat, and safety glasses.
