  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of progressive experience (including time spent in Masters or Doctoral programs) in Education, Statistics, Economics, Public Policy, Anthropology, Sociology, or other relevant field.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Self-starter, with an enthusiasm for learning a variety of research and analysis work

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis and design experience and motivation to learn or advance these skills

  • Curiosity about how executive education influences behaviors and actions of city leaders

  • Ability to examine problems from multiple angles to engage in creative and collaborative problem-solving

  • Experience analyzing and interpreting interviews or other qualitative data

  • Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects

  • Experience analyzing and interpreting survey results and working with smaller quantitative datasets (experience with R, Stata, or Excel Macros a plus)

  • Aptitude for storytelling with data through visuals and narrative

  • Experience using data to make recommendations for continuous improvement

  • Facility translating technical concepts for a non-technical audiences

  • Excellent interpersonal skills that resonate with audiences of different backgrounds

  • Strong team-player with an ability to build productive relationships and work across all levels across a diverse organization

  • Entrepreneurial work style with an enthusiasm for doing whatever it takes to get the job done.

This is a hybrid position based on our campus in Cambridge, MA. Salary Range: $74,200 - $126,200

Reporting to the Initiative’s lead for Strategy and Development, the Specialist will assist in rigorous analysis of qualitative and quantitative impact assessment data and will be responsible for:

  • Implementing evaluations, partnering with colleagues from other teams to establish scope

  • Adapting and administering program surveys and other quantitative measures

  • Conducting interviews and collecting other qualitative data

  • Analyzing qualitative and quantitative data

  • Using qualitative and quantitative data to make recommendations for continuous improvement

  • Storytelling with data through visuals and narrative to communicate with non-technical audiences

  • Reporting analysis to a variety of audiences including executive leadership

  • Responding to requests for analyses and data from stakeholders at all levels

  • Developing and managing processes for organizing and making data and analyses accessible to the Initiative’s team

  • Maintaining and building upon infrastructure and processes for systematic data collection and analysis in close collaboration with the Center’s operations team

  • Contributing to new impact assessment instruments and protocols

  • Tracking and following up on potential impact leads

  • Engaging in ongoing learning through mentoring and professional development

The Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative - a program of the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University - is an ambitious joint effort of Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School in close collaboration with and funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies to advance leadership, management, and innovation in cities. Now in its eighth full year, the Initiative equips mayors and senior city officials with the skills, tools, and techniques to tackle the leadership and management challenges they face in their cities.   • Learn what works in the programming to continuously evolve and improve;

  • Develop an evidence base for what works in practice; and

  • Remain accountable to program participants, the academic community, our donor, and the larger field of practice

    The Impact Assessment and Evaluation Specialist will play a critical role in executing data collection and analyses in support of evaluating, assessing, and communicating the impact of the Initiative.
