Duke Energy Lead Risk Analyst (Enterprise Risk Management) in Charlotte, North Carolina

This is the fourth level of the risk analyst classification hierarchy. Progression to this level is typically restricted on the basis of business need. Employees at this level solve complex problems and interpret internal or external business issues and recommend solutions. Incumbents provide leadership (advising and providing direction) to others and may coordinate daily work activities or review the work of other teammates. Employee may also regularly lead projects. Employee works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. Incumbent has specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise.

This role provides Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) support for various business activities across Duke Energy Corporation including working with Business Unit (BU) management teams to identify and quantify risk exposure including operational, financial, project and strategy risks. This position is responsible for using risk management tools in coordination with other risk governance organizations in the company to document and report on risks. Contributes to ERM program through monitoring and analyzing emerging enterprise issues while maintaining/growing relationships with BU personnel to ensure timely information flow and business support. Performs complex analysis and research ad-hoc requests, develops reporting, and effectively presents results for management review and decision making.

Responsibilities

ERM Program

  • Support development of the annual enterprise risk assessment (ERA) report for the Board of Directors.

  • Stay apprised of industry trends regarding practices in ERM.

  • Work with strategy group to scan external emerging threats and opportunities to enterprise strategy and operations.

  • Support risk policy development and enforcement by working with leadership to create, control, and update risk policies.

  • Demonstrate leadership as a resource for technical expertise, guidance, and assistance for questions and problems related to risk identification and analysis Provide basic and ongoing training for users of risk management tools including Duke Energy’s enterprise risk register system.

  • Organize and facilitate bi-annual risk summit, bringing risk program updates and relevant risk training to practitioners across the enterprise.

Support for specific strategic and operational risk

  • Serve as an ERM risk consultant/liaison to specific business units. Assist in bi-annual completion and review of business unit Risk Registers.

  • Develop and maintain proactive relationships with business units to keep apprised of execution strategies and associated risks.

  • Work with peers regarding cross-functional matters of impact to the enterprise (e.g. risk interdependencies across functions/utilities; application of strategic/enterprise risks to assigned functional areas; sharing of best practices across functional areas).

  • Assist with bottoms-up identification of operational, project, and strategic risks to be further assessed and quantified for reporting purposes.

  • Participate and support special risk assessment efforts for operational, strategic, or cross-functional risks.

  • Monitor and analyze emerging enterprise risks and maintain/grow relationships with business unit personnel to ensure timely information flow and business support.

  • Review projects requiring Transaction Risk Committee (TRC) due diligence scrub as ERM Subject Matter Expert ensuring proper documentation of risks for these projects. Brief Chief Risk Officer on risk concerns.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Engineering or related discipline

  • Five (5) plus years related work experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Masters in Finance or MBA

  • Eight (8) years or more of professional work related experience

  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills

  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new theories and applications and curiosity

  • Experience leading special projects, including building and utilizing internal and external expertise, leading the team to a quality and timely product, and presenting effectively to Management

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication, and organization skills to facilitate interactions with others and the accomplishment of job responsibilities

  • Ability to combine knowledge across all aspects of the organization (rates and regulatory effects, economic analysis, achievability of recommendations, accounting and reporting considerations, engineering) and collaboratively challenge assumptions to help the company make risk informed decisions

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the assigned Duke Energy facility.
