Duke Energy Senior Risk Analyst (Enterprise Risk Management) in Charlotte, North Carolina

This is the third level of the risk analyst classification hierarchy. Employees at this level work independently and receive minimal guidance. Incumbents are required to have in-depth knowledge and experience and work to solve complex problems. Incumbents also act as a resource for less experience employees.

This role will support various risk management activities across Duke Energy Corporation. Approximately 50% of employee’s time is spent supporting the Transaction Risk Committee (TRC) process and Market Risk Management and the balance of the time supporting Enterprise Risk Management, Insurance, Enterprise Strategy, and the Chief Risk Officer (CRO).

The TRC is a committee of executive leadership who review and recommend approval of proposed business transactions and risk management activities of Duke Energy Corporation that require approval by the President, Chief Executive Officer, and the Board of Directors. This role will be a member of the TRC Scrub Point of Contact Team who facilitates the TRC Scrub process across the enterprise. This role will work closely with members of the Treasurer, and Chief Risk Officer’s department. The position would have frequent communication with Duke Energy personnel across all business units and all different levels.

Responsibilities

  • Create, schedule and communicate project kickoff meetings between the Project Team(s) and the TRC Scrub Subject Matter Experts (SME); This includes set up of the Project Team Collaboration Sites (Microsoft SharePoint)

  • Lead and facilitate the bi-weekly TRC Scrub project kickoff meetings for each project

  • Lead and facilitate discussions and post kickoff debrief sessions following project kickoffs

  • Maintain and review TRC Scrub SME list and update as the organization changes and evolves through job rotations

  • Maintain access controls across the different types of projects for both SME and Project Team members

  • Update and maintain TRC whitepaper templates, FAQs, and other relevant documentation from SMEs and share with the Project Team leads

  • Monitor projects (whitepaper submission, QA log and signoffs) and update sign off tracker

  • Assist the TRC Secretary with meeting agendas, drafting TRC minutes and any other ad hoc requests

  • As the employee develops, employee will review project whitepapers, rate case assumptions, and provide summaries for TRC members on key issues or considerations

  • Support Market Risk by monitoring daily natural gas hedging activities, updating daily forward curve process for natural gas, monitoring daily compliance requirements and producing weekly position reports for regulated electric

Additional Responsibilities

  • Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Support

  • Support development and execution of ERM practices working with risk practitioners across the company and identifying/evaluating corporate and business unit risks

  • Support risk policy development and enforcement by working with leadership to create, control, and update risk policies

  • Stay apprised of industry trends regarding practices in enterprise risk management and provide research, reporting and support regarding specific strategic and operational risks

  • Support ERM risk consultants gathering and analyzing risk reporting materials, support the annual Enterprise Risk Assessment process and special risk assessments (to include facilitation, information gathering, research, analysis and drafting presentation materials)

  • Insurance Support

  • Renewal Support – support in preparation of critical information provided to brokers and underwriters in order to assess and price the insurance policy renewals, support special underwriting requests, assist with post renewal analysis reports

  • New Projects/Construction - support in getting and organizing information on new projects to better position them for construction insurance

  • Special Projects – participate in special projects, such as wildfire analysis, captive studies, long-term and insurance market outlook

  • Administer programs – support administration of insurance program such as bill payment, tracking and analyzing damage recovery claims

  • Enterprise Strategy and CRO Support

  • Gather information and summarize for Enterprise Strategy and Risk executive presentations

  • Key coordination for Governance and Strategic Initiatives for the Enterprise Strategy group

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Engineering or related discipline

  • Three (3) plus years related work experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Finance or MBA

  • Six (6) years or more of professional work related experience

  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills

  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new theories and applications

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication, and organization skills to facilitate interactions with others and the accomplishment of job responsibilities

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the assigned Duke Energy facility.
