USAA Risk Analyst Senior - Bank Business Oversight in Colorado Springs, Colorado

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Provides risk management oversight for a line of business or staff agency in key risk identification, measurement, monitoring, control, and reporting. Helps drive the understanding and management of risk through appropriate practices and processes. Assesses and oversees business exposures including key and emerging risks. Monitors the risk and control environment and provides effective challenge to internal and external partners to ensure that exposures are kept at acceptable levels. Call outs and reports Bank risks to the appropriate governance bodies.

The Opportunity

What you'll do:

  • Partners with business leaders, product owners, operational leaders, and business risk/control teams in the bank to identify, assess, aggregate and document risks and controls, including risks associated with new or modified products, services, distribution channels, regulations and third-party operations using advanced knowledge of regulatory expectations and functional discernment

  • Engages with business partners to effectively scope areas for second line review and independently conducts assessments for potential operational risks within the bank; engages with business partners to communicate second line findings of these risk assessments and influences business process owners and bank leadership to drive appropriate action and/or closure

  • Implements and enhances ongoing monitoring of bank business functions for operational risks, including analyzing business processes, control performance, and business indicators and demonstrates effective second line oversight of assigned business functions

  • Applies advanced knowledge to identify appropriate data sources to enable objective and independent analysis to assess risks and controls; leverages influence to implement appropriate solutions or countermeasures with the business

  • Serves as a key contributor in cross-functional teams in the bank to identify, assess, aggregate, and mitigate top and emerging bank risks as well as realized risk events

  • Assesses and validates business/first line issue and regulatory action closure evidence to ensure business risk mitigation is demonstrated, effective, and sustainable and summarizes second line conclusions clearly and concisely in both written and verbal forms to ensure effective communication and action

  • Assesses bank adherence to risk policies, practices, and appetite to ensure comprehensive understanding and management of bank risks according to industry standards and internal standards

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or a related field or 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

  • 6 years of risk management, regulatory or operations experience in a relevant functional area to include banking, insurance, financial services, audit, project management, public accounting, or other related operational area.

  • Or advanced degree/designation in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or other subject area relevant to risk management and 4 years of work experience in a subject area relevant to risk management.

  • Risk management experience in a complex institution and/or highly matrixed environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution management and ability to effectively challenge at all levels of management and influence business outcomes.

  • Ability to effectively work with both internal and external partners in a highly collaborative environment.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools and techniques and decision-making abilities, to include proven ability to effectively make data-driven decisions.

  • Proactively identifies potential concerns and follows-up to resolve issues.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel and PowerPoint.

What sets you apart:

  • Direct second line oversight of banking business functions in a major financial institution under large bank supervision

  • Experience is successfully defining and driving second line risk assessments from inception to conclusions and action with bank business leaders

  • Experience in successfully reviewing, validating, and closing important regulatory observations, including MRAs and/or consent orders

  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner [optional]

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $99,160 - $189,530 .

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
