Synchrony Vice President- Business Development in Costa Mesa, California

Role Summary/Purpose:

The Vice President, Business Development will report to the SVP, Business Development and will be responsible for partnering with Client Development Leaders and participating in their strategic activities, including prospecting and closing multi-year relationships in targeted market segments in alignment with Synchrony's strategic growth plans.

This position is remote, where you have the option to work from home. On occasion we may request for you to commute to our nearest office for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture events. We're proud to offer you choice and flexibility.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Proactive relationship building with internal and external stakeholders to create more strategic growth opportunities through our existing fragmented networks.

  • Develop new multi-year relationships partnership with SVP, Business Development and cross-functional teams to drive strategic growth in targeted market segments.

  • Develop a pipeline of prospects and new relationships, selling in Synchrony's product and service offerings, including private label, setPay, Installment Loan and Network credit card programs across new and existing industries.

  • Develop relationships with C-level management of various industry prospects (retailers, etailers, associations, buying groups, industry adjacencies and consultants).

  • Conduct strategic account planning for targeted prospects to 1) Explore and prioritize opportunities; 2) Develop prospecting approach and winning value proposition tailored to specific client requirements; 3) work collaboratively with internal and external resources; and 4) Formulate action plans and timelines to close new business.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Client Development, Marketing, Finance, Analytics, Credit, Risk, NCI, Legal, HR, etc.) to lead internal approval process including Pre-Deal Review and Investment Deal Review.

  • Partner with our OEM, Association and Buying Group partners to identify individual strategic prospects for multi-year partnerships.

  • Structure, negotiate and close multi-year Retailer and sponsorship agreements. These include acquisitions, start-ups and other financing and servicing opportunities as appropriate.

  • Incorporate compliance and regulatory controls and triggers in proposal and deal agreements in partnership with Credit, Risk, Compliance, Legal and other associated functions.

  • Transition new relationships to the client teams by assisting and guiding cross-functional deal teams from initial sourcing to launch, via NCI process.

  • Continually promote and apply Synchrony values.

  • Provide insight to marketing and finance teams to assist in the development of innovative value propositions.

  • Execute special projects as requested, including gathering/disseminating competitive intelligence.

  • Prospect activities include industry and company research, sales presentations, trade show attendance, and pipeline reporting

  • Proposals include development, financial offers (with Pricing/Finance), cross-functional deal team coordination, internal clearance, approvals and report outs.

  • Negotiations include governance and financial structure development; operational guidelines; terms and conditions.

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field (Business Development, Sales, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Business Management) OR in lieu of completed degree, must have at least 7 years' relevant work experience

  • Minimum 5 years of proven business-to-business sales experience at C-level in Credit Card/Payments and/or Healthcare Industry

  • Minimum of 3 years cross-functional team leadership management experience

  • Preferred 3 years of Direct Client management experience

  • Must be willing to travel at least 50%

  • Position may be located at an SYF Hub or Remote USA

Desired Characteristics:

  • Masters Degree

  • Team leader and team player, with proven record of sales and/or management success in the consumer Payments/Credit Card or Fintech industries.

  • Expertise in Home Furnishings, Home Improvement, Automotive or Luxury industry is a plus

  • Experience with Ecommerce, and establishing relationships with retailers

  • Excellent financial/analytical and deal structuring skills.

  • Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities.

Grade/Level: 13

The salary range for this position is 130,000.00 - 210,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months' time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months' time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don't meet the time in position or performance expectations).
