Sony Pictures Entertainment US Digital Distribution, Intern – Summer 2024 in Culver City, California

This Summer Internship is from May/June through August 30th (start and end dates are flexible based on school schedules) and all candidates must be able to work 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday in the specified location. This position is ideal for a student enrolled in an accredited college or university. A hybrid work structure may or may not be available.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

The US Digital Distribution, Home Entertainment Department is charged with maximizing revenues for Sony Pictures Entertainment’s iconic library of content in both the Electronic Sell-Through (EST), and Video on Demand (VOD) segments. This commercial team consists of 2 departments: (1) Sales, who liases with all digital retailers in the US (Amazon, Apple, Comcast, etc.) (2) Sales Planning, who provides analytics and models in support of the organization’s commercial goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The intern will be responsible for analyzing, assessing, and delivering a project on Best Commercial Practices in the Premium Window. This will include an analysis of the competitive marketplace including:

  • Premium Pricing strategies: How does SPE compare to the marketplace and should we consider revising our strategy? How does premium pricing vary by DBO and Genre? Are premium titles elastic (does it benefit us to price low or promote if these titles under-perform)?

  • Best practices at Digital Retailers: What should we be anticipating and asking for in terms of on and off-store placement, especially in light of new Amazon and Apple store layouts? Best competitive practices.

  • Additional best practices – (1) Can we quantify the financial benefit of planning early, including retailer placement/revenue up-lift. (2) Home Entertainment Revenue impact based on weeks of release post-theatrical

In addition to this major project, the intern will help with ad-hoc projects and daily tasks across the Sales and Sales Planning teams.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be enrolled in an MBA program, have analytical and presentation skills, understand the digital content landscape (and how transactional fits in) across studios, and have a passion for the industry.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Studio/entertainment industry experience preferred but not required.
