The Risk Manager will get involved in a number of different activities across the ERM Credit & Market Risk Team (CMR) with a primary focus on credit analysis and surveillance of counterparty risk, including our Bank and Trading counterparties. This position will report to the Credit Risk team lead.

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in the Hartford, CT office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform fundamental credit analyses and surveillance of counterparties, including bank counterparties, third party suppliers, and communicate identified risks to senior management.

  • Drive the counterparty approval process for Bank, Trading, and Broker counterparties for the Insurance portfolio of HIG.

  • Develop risk measurement, aggregation, and monitoring of relevant exposure risk metrics and analytics, including participating in potential impacts of stress testing scenarios for the current exposure.

  • Partner with lines of business and other investment functions to help manage key credit risks.

  • Report and communicate risks to CMR team leaders and key business stakeholders as needed.

  • Conduct regular meetings with portfolio managers, credit analysts and performance team staff to enhance risk management efforts.

  • Develop and enhance the surveillance/approval platform and process.

  • Monitor and communicate compliance with limits.

  • Maintain Letter of Credit counterparty watch list and make recommendations for updates to the watch list.

  • Prepare reports and presentations for relevant risk committees and senior management.

    Qualifications

  • Eight or more years of professional experience in credit analysis, counterparty, bank analysis, credit risk management and/or finance at an insurance, banking, asset management or other financial services institution.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain strong relationships with senior management and business/functional leads.

  • Strong analytical capabilities and at least five years’ experience in fundamental credit analysis required.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Organized; results and detailed oriented with a proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage competing priorities.

  • Strong data management skills including Excel, VBA, PowerPoint.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Computer Science, Actuarial Sciences, or Statistics preferred.

  • Advanced degree, such as MBA or a Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics, or a professional designation, such as CFA, FRM, is a plus.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$117,840 - $176,760
