Jackson County ISD Preschool Instructor in Jackson, Michigan

Summary: Provide an individualized educational experience for children from ages 3 through 5.  Responsible for recruitment and retention of preschool students. Instruct children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for primary school in preschool, day care center, or other child development facility by performing the duties outlined below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Work is performed under the general supervision of the administration. An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (Does not include all tasks the employee may be expected to perform).

Curriculum and Instruction

  1. Develop and operationalize a curriculum designed to achieve the stat goals of the instructor's assigned program.
  2. Demonstrates continuous progress toward individualizing the curriculum within the program, consistent with the MDE Early Childhood Standards and Jackson Area Career Center curriculum.
  3. Maintains, at all times, high-quality childcare standards based on developmentally appropriate practices.
  4. Identifies and makes use of school and community resources which will contribute to the effectiveness of students learning experiences.
  5. Plans individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills, such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment.
  6. Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of pupils with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturity.
  7. Develops in each pupil an awareness of worth as an individual and their role in their family and community.
  8. Encourages pupils to express themselves creatively in art, music, and dramatic play.
  9. Provides appropriate climate to establish and reinforce acceptable pupil behavior, attitudes and social skills.
  10. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of pupils' work.
  11. Provides individual and small group instruction designed to meet the individual needs of pupils in communications skills, health habits, physical skills, and development of self-concepts.
  12. Performs preschool student evaluations and/or assessments in preparation for kindergarten.
  13. Develops and implements a safety program.

Management and Supervision

  1. Selects and requisitions instructional aids, supplies, and schedules snacks.
  2. Maintain a program inventory control system and manage a planned preventative maintenance program for equipment within the program area.
  3. Case management includes student recordkeeping, individualized educational planned meetings and conferences, writing goals and performance objectives, progress reports, and discipline and behavior management.
  4. Supervise day-to-day housekeeping of program areas.
  5. Oversee the preschool room arrangement.
  6. Supervise high school students in the preschool setting as scheduled with the Careers in Education instructor.

Professional Communication

  1. Works Cooperatively and actively communicates with the Careers in Education program instructor.
  2. Plans and coordinates work with the instructional assistant.
  3. Communicates regularly with parents through a variety of methods (i.e., newsletter, notes, phone calls and individual parent conferences).
  4. Interprets school program to parents in order to strengthen parental understanding of the individual pupil's needs and the school's role in the pupil's life.
  5. Promotes parent participation and involvement in education activities provided for their children.
