Job Description

This position reports to the Tennis Facility Manager and manages the daily operations of any of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services tennis facilities.

Examples of Work

  • Provides tennis instruction to all levels of play: teams, leagues, summer youth camp, general public and special events.

  • Schedules, assigns, reviews and evaluates the work of assigned staff, such as Maintenance personnel and Tennis Aides.

  • Balances cash deposits to receipts weekly.

  • Advises, oversees, assists with and provides the maintenance of hard and clay courts.

  • Addresses customer care issues: telephone, email, and face to face communication.

  • Provides customer service by making court reservations and answering the telephone.

  • Communicates clear direction, manages for results and leads organizational change.

  • Assigns responsibility, takes corrective action, demonstrates leadership in evaluating, developing and motivating employees.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

  • Three years of professional experience in teaching tennis which must include a personal playing level of 4.5 or higher as well as professional experience teaching tennis programs.

  • Must have and maintain a United States Professional Tennis Association or Professional Tennis Registry Professional level certification of 2 or higher.

  • Must pass background screening on a local, state and federal level as required by the State of Florida Children and Family Services.

NOTE: This classification performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to pre-employment, random and other drug/alcohol testing programs as set forth in the City of Jacksonville's Drug Free Workplace Policy (0401).
