The Health and Well-Being Coach, RDN will care for GEHA health plan members through nutrition counseling, health and well-being coaching, and health and well-being education. The primary mode of delivering this coaching will be telephonic and digital. This coach/RDN will be a valued team member who contributes to several health and well-being programs, such as: lifestyle coaching, medical nutrition therapy, health education, well-being content creation, weight management programs, diabetes and diabetes prevention programs, and care coordination with a multidisciplinary team.

This role is primarily responsible for supporting members in their efforts to achieve healthy behavior changes. The health and well-being coach, RDN, will also serve as one of the nutrition expert consultants to the clinical operations division. This position emphasizes evidence-based clinical practice, whole-person centered care, and the value of a caring culture.

To excel in this role, the coach/RDN will need skills and/or knowledge related to: transtheoretical coaching model, facilitating lasting behavior change, motivational interviewing, health education, intuitive eating, goal setting, mindfulness, resiliency, integrative and functional medicine, and condition management as it relates to their scope of practice (particularly in the areas of diabetes, hypertension, heart health, weight management, and musculoskeletal/anti-inflammatory).

SKILLS

Duties and Responsibilities:

Health Coaching:

  • Perform an assessment or screening related to health and well-being coaching, medical nutrition therapy, social determinants of health, or nutrition counseling

  • Guide members related to defining their vision, setting their health and well-being goals, building their support networks, and achieving their health improvement plans

  • Document all clinical encounters (ADIME and INDT for nutrition counseling), and facilitate outcomes recording, tracking, and analyzing

  • Ensure clinical standards of care, health equity, disease prevention, and outcomes tracking are integrated into program design and into continuous team learning

  • Design and organize member-facing and coach-facing nutrition and wellness content such as webinars, modules, classes, and fliers

  • Demonstrate respect and sensitivity for all health plan members, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, language, sexuality, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, or health diagnosis

  • Perform other related tasks incidental to the above-described responsibilities

  • Comply with all accreditations, State and Federal mandates

Workplace and Schedule

  • Primary hours are 8AM-5PM Monday to Friday; however, hours may vary or flex

  • Remote or hybrid position. We predict onsite team meetings at our Lee’s Summit, MO location once per quarter when COVID-19 transmission rates permit.

  • Flexible work location: work from home or use one of our office locations any time you choose (in Lee’s Summit, MO). Offices are equipped with vending, sit/stand desks, and fitness facilities.

Experience and Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics with accredited internship completed

  • Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) in good standing with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required

  • Licensed Dietitian in any state

  • Requires three years of clinical nutrition counseling that includes at least one year of outpatient nutrition counseling

  • Requires at least two years related experience in condition management, health coaching, care management, well-being programming, and/or population health

  • Experience with the Nutrition Care Process and Nutrition Care Manual

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, or closely related field

  • Experience in telehealth or virtual coaching/counseling

  • NBC-HWC credential from the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching

  • Experience with nutrition counseling for all age groups

  • Experience in designing clinical documentation and clinical reporting tools

  • Specialty practice areas, such as: Integrative and Functional Medicine, Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), Adult and/or Pediatric Weight Management, Nutrition Education for the Public, Cardiovascular Health and Wellness, or Hunger and Environmental Nutrition

  • Must have the ability to provide a non-cellular High Speed Internet Service such as Fiber, DSL, or cable Modems for a home office.

  • A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 30x5 (30mpbs download x 5mpbs upload) is required.

  • Latency (ping) response time lower than 80 ms

  • Hotspots, satellite and wireless internet service is NOT allowed for this role.

  • A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

GEHA considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and business considerations when extending an offer.

The annual base salary range for this position is $65,238 - $91,962 USD.
