NBC Universal Lead Software Engineer - NodeJS in Orlando, Florida

JOB SUMMARY: The Lead Software Engineer – NodeJS role is to provide technical leadership and delivery for Universal Parks and Resorts Digital Technology – Integration Services. Lead Software Engineer will be responsible to define, develop, test, analyze, and deliver technology solutions related to the Guest and Team Member experience. This could include writing, coding, testing, analyzing, and delivering both hardware and software programs and applications.

The Lead Software Engineer will also lead others in the research, design, documentation, and modification of technology solutions throughout the project life cycle. Leadership tasks include leveraging of Enterprise Systems to their full extents, development or leadership of project development efforts, and the transition of delivered solutions to the Parks Technology Operations team for ongoing support. They are expected to be able to perform as a technical lead from a code-level as well as the functional- level in addition to collaborating closely with other teams (such as our Architecture team) or third-party vendors.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate and Lead business analysts, programmer analysts, developers, and architects in conceptualizing and development of software programs and applications.

  • Liaise and mentor other technical staff to lend expertise toward driving solutions

  • Defect Triage – Build and lead a team to quickly identify defects found during the software development and quality assurance cycles, to assign to the correct teams for timely resolution.

  • Design, run and monitor software tests on new and existing systems for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging.

  • Lead the documentation of system business requirements, technical requirements, specifications, and test cases on a project-by-project basis in collaboration with internal users and departments.

  • Support Release Management and Change Control processes along with other UPR Compliance Initiatives.

  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience desired in one or more of the following fields: Computer Information Technology, Computer Programming and Analysis, Industrial Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 7+ years equivalent work experience. Experience preferred in software development in small-large sized projects with small to large sized teams.

  • Conflict resolution, debugging, triaging, troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques required.

  • Good presentation, facilitation, communication, and negotiation skills required.

  • Proven hands-on experience as a software engineer with expertise and focus on one or more technologies inclusive of NodeJS, TypeScript, JavaScript, ExpressJS. Experience in Mocha, CouchDB, Redis, Kafka, Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.

  • Expertise with REST, Node.JS, NoSQL, SQL, eventing patterns and microservices.

  • Experience leading enterprise engineering projects or teams is a plus. Self-starter with the ability to manage a broad workload and accommodate change with a proven ability to deliver results.

  • Proven ability to be a technical lead and assist in the technical growth of other Team Members and operate as the technical expert for multiple applications.

  • Very highly developed written and verbal communication skills (including the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to a non-technical audience)

  • Adaptability — a fast learner with a willingness to build solutions using tools to which you may have had little previous exposure.

  • Empathy—the innate ability to understand the challenges faced by our customers, and the drive to resolve them.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality technical documentation.

  • Demonstrated ability of strong customer relationship skills, problem resolution and improved efficiencies and productivity.

  • Experience with large scale enterprise system development and integration.

  • Experience with Agile, Scrum, and Scaled Agile Framework a plus.

  • or equivalent combination of education and experience

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is based in Orlando, Florida and may require travel to other NBCUniversal parks and properties on occasion.
