We are currently seeking to recruit an Environmental Test Engineer to join our Engineering Team providing support to the Test & Qualification Team in Plymouth.

Role Overview:

In this role, you’ll be enabling engineering product development and qualification by providing a range of test services to support the advancement of our technology.

Responsibilities here include:

  • Carrying out a range of climatic testing – Thermal cycling, Thermal shock, Humidity, Combined temperature & Humidity, and various thermal tests across standards.

  • Develop and document test plans, procedures, technical reports, and presentations for environmental testing, including thermal cycling, thermal shock, and steady-state thermal characterization.

  • Supporting of, or direct responsibility for qualification and development tests.

  • Provide inputs to equipment design team for thermal test set-ups and fixtures for laboratory and field testing.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate thermal management solutions into product design and qualification.

  • Troubleshoot thermal testing issues and provide thermal testing mitigation strategies.

  • Assessing equipment calibrations and measurement uncertainties to ensure that capability in the accredited tests is maintained.

  • Driving continuous improvement of capabilities, knowledge, and processes within the laboratory.

  • Maintaining a clean and tidy laboratory i.a.w. 5S procedures.

  • Supporting off site testing where required.

The successful candidate will have experience of working within a fast paced and agile team with a range of adaptable skills, capable of readily working across a broad spectrum of Environmental testing as outline above.

The role will involve working individually as well as in a team so excellent organisational skills and the ability to communicate at all levels within the organisation is important.

Ideally the candidate is proficient in the use of a broad range of Environmental test facilities and has knowledge of associated standards e.g. BS EN 60068 & MIL-STD-810 as well a good understanding of the principles of vibration, shock, and climatic testing. A clean driving licence is required to support off site testing.

The candidate can ideally be educated to degree level and either chartered or working towards chartered status or demonstrate through experience the knowledge and skills required. Consideration will also be given to the right candidate who may not have all the required skills and knowledge, but where development potential and commitment can be demonstrated for this vacancy.

Basic Requirements:

Environmental testing experience including thermal testing is a must and we can also consider a test engineer who has got experience with vibration testing, shock testing or other test methods.

  • Carrying out a range of climatic testing is a must –Thermal cycling, Thermal shock, Humidity, combined temperature & Humidity, and various thermal tests across standards.

  • Knowledge of UKAS 17025 is essential. If the candidate managed any UKAS Audit or similar audit, it would be great.

  • Maintaining and Calibration of test equipment experience is a must. It includes but not limited wit thermal chambers, thermocouples, data loggers, thermometers and any calibrated and/or maintained equipment at the environmental engineering lab.

  • Experience with organising annual contractor maintenance of climatic chambers and providing support to contractor engineers when on site.
