Sonos Privacy and Legal Intern in Remote, United States

This role can be done from home - Within the Netherlands

Building the world’s leading sound experience starts with the experience we provide for our people. That’s why we’ve been distributed from the start: initially between offices in Santa Barbara, Boston and Hilversum. This role can be done from anywhere in The Netherlands. It’s about impact, not location. You will report to the Global Head of Data Privacy/Senior Legal Counsel and you’ll be supporting the global legal team and partnering with all teams at Sonos (e.g. HR, Marketing, Data, Security and Products, etc.).

The Role

As a Data Privacy and Legal Intern at Sonos, you will have the unique opportunity to work closely with our legal professionals to gain practical experience in the areas of data privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance. You will play a vital role in supporting our efforts to uphold the highest standards of data protection and legal adherence. This internship will provide you with exposure to a fast-paced and evolving legal landscape, enabling you to develop a strong foundation for a career in data privacy and legal fields. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting legal research to ensure compliance with data protection laws, regulations, and industry standards (mainly EU and US).

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of data protection policies, procedures, and documentation.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review and assess data processing activities, ensuring alignment with privacy principles.

  • Support the preparation and execution of data processing agreements, contracts, and other legal documents.

  • Assist in monitoring and analyzing changes in data protection and privacy regulations, updating the team on relevant developments.

  • Participate in internal audits and assessments to identify potential privacy risks and compliance gaps.

  • Help coordinate employee training programs on data privacy and protection best practices.

  • Aid in responding to data subject requests, inquiries, and incidents, ensuring timely and appropriate resolution.

  • Provide general administrative support to the legal team.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited law school or pursuing a degree in a related field such as data privacy, cybersecurity, or information management.

  • Passionate about privacy and data protection with a desire to become a subject matter expert in data protection and privacy legal issues; basic understanding of data privacy laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

  • Organized, with strong project management skills and the ability to work well on both long and short-term projects; willingness to partner on a wide range of projects

  • Strong research skills, with the ability to analyze and interpret legal documents and regulations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and thoroughness.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and legal research tools.

  • Any prior internship or coursework related to data privacy, cybersecurity, or legal fields is a plus.

  • Able to work and handle projects independently.

Duration and Compensation

This is a full-time/part-time internship position that is expected to last between 6 and 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and business needs. The internship allowance shall amount to €750 gross per month based upon 40 working hours per week.
