Purpose of the Position:
This position is with Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering (MT&E) directorate based in Taichung. The role will support all Corning Incorporated divisions, manufacturing plants and contract manufacturing locations in Asia and Pacific Rim. Project assignments will require traveling in China, Vietnam, S. Korea, India, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, and USA. To be successful in this role, the right candidate must build strong technical linkage with MTE core technology groups in the US and the different Division Engineering groups. He or she must also drive vendors building manufacturing automation systems and process equipment to meet Corning requirements and specifications.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Responsible for the accuracy of work performed; takes a proactive approach to ensure high quality of work.
Able to work independently to develop material handling automation and process equipment design concepts and detail mechanisms in response to manufacturing needs, issues, or problems.
Communicate ideas and project status clearly and professionally through graphic and written media and oral presentations.
Provide necessary documentation of activities, results, and assignments.
Collect and analyze material handling or process needs to select suitable off-the-shelf automation such as industrial robots, collaborative robots, AGVs, AMRs, etc.
Program, teach, integrate, and troubleshoot off-the-shelf automation such as industrial robots, collaborative robots, AGVs, AMRs, etc. with connecting process equipment, conveyors, or buffers.
Direct vendors in the construction of prototype, production equipment and material handling automation. Perform tests and evaluate data to make preliminary recommendations regarding equipment performance.
Interface with external machine builders, systems integrators, and suppliers to specify and successfully deliver fully integrated equipment or automation systems to internal customers on-time, on-budget, and on process performance targets.
Individual must be capable of executing project assignments with minimal supervision.
Education & Experience
Major in engineering department with BS or above degree – Mechanical Engineering or related fielded
Major in mechanical engineering, mechanical design, or mechatronics
Experience involving new product development and new automation equipment development, integration, software programming, prototyping, mechanical design and manufacturing, debug and optimization would be a plus
Required Skills
Proficient in AutoCAD and Solidworks/Inventor or PRO-E/UG software.
Effective oral and written communication skills in English

Excellent computer skills (proficient in Microsoft Office)

Desired Skills
Experience on precision equipment design and automation integration such as industrial robots, collaborative robots, AGVs, AMRs, precision conveyors and machine vision.
Experience in robot and automation system simulation using software such as RoboGuide, RobotStudio or Visual Components
CAD/CAM capability especially for CNC application would be a plus
Experience in equipment design field and engineering analysis FEA (Ansys/ LS-Dyna)would be a plus
Strong capability of mechanical drawing comprehension
Familiar with error budget method
Familiar with GD&T, Pneumatic, Hydraulic and Mechanical components.
Familiar with manufacturing method- Milling, Turning, Grinding, Sheet metal, etc
Familiar with vibration mechanical components and system.
Familiar with contract manufacturing and negotiate with vendor on design, cost, schedule, and so on.
Project management skill and good communication capability
Familiar with industrial safety standards
