The GOM Geo Modeler will be part of the GOM Asset Dev Marco Polo Team and will support the Gulf of Mexico Business Unit in managing both short and long term planning as well as in controlling program execution while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. This will be done by working closely with the Assets, Plants and Operational Support groups to gather, analyze and reconcile all necessary data to allow execution of these plans.     

Petrel-Based Geomodelling Technical Support:

·      Work closely with GOM Development multidisciplinary teams to prioritize geomodel construction to align with BU goals and deliverable timing.  Role may require working with multiple asset teams at same time. 

·      Use theoretical and practical knowledge of Reservoir Characterization to construct, update, and review static geologic models in Petrel by incorporating 3D/4D seismic data, well log analysis, offset analogs, and production data while utilizing additional subsurface data types (maps, cross sections, depositional models, etc.).

·      Utilize existing GOM-specific best practices to construct geologic models representing deepwater deposition and facies distribution.  

·      Work closely with reservoir simulation engineers to ensure that the pertinent geologic parameters are appropriately scaled to meet the simulation requirements and adhere to sound geologic principles when used for property distribution away from well control.

·      Coordinate with Corporate Function Geomodel subject matter experts for consistent corporate approach.

  • Provide technical analysis for special projects within the GOM BU, as needed.
  • Support geomodel based reserves justification with the asset team and corporate reserves team yearly cycle.

GeoModel Peer Review Process:

  • Help asset teams prepare for subsurface technical peer reviews incorporating generated geomodels.
  • Align with existing GOM peer review/assist and post appraisal processes and participate and provide comment as peer reviewer during G&G (Geomodel) stage of Project Delivery Process (PDP).
  • Work closely with Lead Geomodeler in the GOM Development Excellence (DE) team to assure consistent modelling practices and sharing of geomodeling best practices with the asset teams through the PDP.

 Coaching and Mentoring:

  • Support efforts for the reoccurring Geology Community of Practice (COP) and knowledge share as needed.
  • Attend key geomodeling logistics and technical meetings across the assets and company to provide strategic assistance as needed.
  • Help technical asset team members to integrate geomodel outputs and uncertainty into reservoir simulation and commercial evaluations.
  • Share any significant protocols, workflows, short cuts, and templates with asset teams.

Sphere of Influence:

  •         Frequently interacts with OXY’s technical experts and Chiefs to help foster integration and collaboration.
  •       Communicates well with management, colleagues, various internal work groups, and other stakeholders. Participates in GOM Peer Reviews, COPs, and technical forums.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Geology
  • Ability to integrate and synthesize seismic, petrophysics, and production data into a comprehensive geologic model using robust mapping techniques.
  • Petrel software experience.
  • A strong understanding of statistical methods used to populate and distribute reservoir properties within a geology-based model.
  • Application of geomodelling in uncertainty analysis. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information.
  • Demonstrate ability to collaborate, communicate, and influence within a multi-discipline team.
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently and meet tight deadlines.
  • Minimum of (10) years of geologic (development and/or exploration) experience on a multidisciplinary asset team with extensive geomodelling experience.
  • Extensive experience with clastic, sub-salt, faulted, and deepwater depositional systems.

 Desired:

  • A working knowledge of seismic interpretation skills (2D/3D) and common pitfalls in subsalt environments when conditioning data.
  • Experience supporting reserves estimation and petroleum economics based upon geomodelling and reservoir simulation modeling.
  • Demonstrate ability to build clear presentations to communicate and make technical recommendations to business unit level stakeholders and management team. 
  • Demonstrated clear understanding of development operations and well recommendation processes.
