Associate Director of Alumni Career Services - Office of Advancement - Georgetown University

Alumni Career Services is a strategic and comprehensive portfolio of career development programs and services targeted primarily to the University’s alumni population. Alumni Career Services has been an area of substantial growth and innovation for GUAA and has the capacity for continued high potential impact.

The Associate Director of Alumni Career Services, a critical member of the Alumni Relations team, is responsible for the development and implementation of the Georgetown University Alumni Association (GUAA) delivery of Alumni Career Services programs to 200,000+ alumni from all campuses and programs.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the continued success and innovation of the award-winning webinar program, which generates over 8,000 touchpoints annually and includes professional development webinars, as well as topical programs such as “The Future of…” series, 1789 Seconds, writer roundtables, and industry panels

  • Manage the Career Coaching Partnership Program, job search document review services, and coaching package and workshop opportunities

  • Oversee the Alumni Association’s virtual book clubs and ancillary programming spotlighting alumni and faculty authors

  • Plan and execute career-related events, including programs at signature events such as John Carroll Weekend and Women’s Forum and high-touch regional events throughout the year

  • Develop a strategic marketing and communications plan for the Alumni Career Services, including the management of Career Services’ social media presence

Work Interactions

Reporting to the Director of Career & Lifelong Learning, the Associate Director serves as a member of the Alumni Relations team within the Office of Advancement.

They work closely with alumni volunteers - particular the GUAA Career Services Committee, to which serve as staff liaison – as well as the Hoya Gateway Executive Committee, professional alliance and affinity group leadership, and alumni in regional club leadership positions.

The Associate Director partners and works with other members of the Office of Advancement, especially colleagues from the Alumni Relations, Development, and Annual Fund teams. They have critical partnerships with the Cawley Career Center and other career offices across campus to further grow and develop Alumni Career Services programming that results in meaningful sustained engagement with the university for alumni.

They occasionally interact with students and student groups via student-alumni programming and program development in partnership with Hoya Gateway; and supervise and manage at least one student intern throughout the year.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a higher education environment encompassing volunteer management and event planning - preference for Career Services, Advancement, and Alumni Relations experience

  • Project management and leadership skills

  • Ability to manage others – preference for student intern management experience

  • Critical and strategic thinking skills, with an analytic approach to continually refine best practices and innovate

  • Ability to anticipate and fulfill constituent needs

  • Strong and clear written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and with Advancement colleagues

  • Ability to envision, plan, execute, and evaluate events, and a strong ability to multi-task

  • Creative and technological skills - preference for budget management experience
