Wabtec’s Precision Dispatch System (PDS) is an advanced software solution that provides real-time train dispatching functions that direct and control the movement of trains over a railroad network.

Who will you be working with?

You will work very closely the Wabtec Norfolk Southern Project Manager, Lead Product Owner, Software Delivery Manager, Technical Leads, Test Manager, other NS Project Product Owners, and the Dispatch Director.

You will direct the work of a Software Development Scrum team for this scope.

Additionally, you will represent Wabtec to the Norfolk Southern customer for this scope and there will be significant customer engagement.

This an individual contributor role that reports to Director, Dispatch Application Software Engineering.

How will you make a difference?

This role is a System Engineer /Product Owner (PO) for the Positive Train Control (PTC) Development team consisting of software developers and testers on the Norfolk Southern UTCS 2.0 Wabtec customer project.

The focus of the role will be twofold:

Technical lead for the system level design for the UTCS 2.0 PTC functionality (based on the UTCS 1.0) functionality and engage with the NS customer and UTCS 2.0 dev & test teams during implementation and deployment to ensure success. Provide day to day direction to the UTCS 2.0 PTC Development team to develop, test, deliver and integrate the UTCS 2.0 PTC functionality with the Norfolk Southern system.

The PO role with be responsible to own the overall PTC system level design, PTC dev team delivery commitments, the dev team backlog, its prioritization, and you will coordinate the team’s delivery commitments to be aligned with the larger customer project commitments.

This individual will use the Agile processes to provide the team with a clear and descriptive set of requirements captured as Agile Features and/or User stories and partner with the team to determine what can be delivered through balancing the need for new features, defects, and technical debt.

What do we want to know about you?

Your Must have:

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, technology, and engineering.

10+ years Software Industry experience

5+ years as System Engineer and/or Product Owner

Highly proficient in spoken and written English

Self-starter and able to set direction for self and others when uncertainty exists.

Minimal supervision to perform duties.

Proactive work ethic to energetically identify risks and mitigate them.

Attention to detail to create Feature Stories, user Stories, DoD

Ability to flex leadership style to persuade and motivate teams.

It would be great if you had the following:

Railroad Domain Experience

Dispatch Experience

Positive Train Control Experience (PTC)

Software engineering background

What will your typical day look like?

Interactions with customer, the Product Manager, the Lead Product Owner, Technical Leads, SMEs, and Dev team to elaborate requirements into actionable Designs, features and user stories.

Elaborate requirements into features and user stories, including strong acceptance criteria and requirement traceability.

Translate unstructured or ambiguous work requests into actionable user stories.

Reviews features and user stories with customer, the Product manager, the Lead Product Owner to ensure they meet customer and product needs.

Engage frequently with the development team; facilitate discussions, provide clarification, story acceptance and refinement, testing and validation; contributes to design activities and decisions.

Understand security and compliance requirements; establish seamless integration with Cyber Security and the compliance teams.

Ensures Development team features, and user stories meet the ‘Definition of Ready’ & ‘Definition of Done’ and accept and/or reject the development team features and/or user stories along with any defects.

Use software industry standard tools to plan and track features and user stories such as Rally or similar.

Own and manage the team backlog; continuously order and prioritize to ensure that 1-2 sprints/iterations of backlog are always ready.

Organize and facilitate development team sprint demo.

Provides status on the development teams progress against sprint plan.

Lead efforts to drive resolution of production issues across support and engineering teams.

Lead & represent development team at project sprint demo.

Leads dev team sprint planning meetings.

What about the physical demands of the job?

This position is required to talk and hear on a regular basis.

This position with be needed to travel less than 10% to Melbourne FL and/or Atlanta GA

This position will have the need to use a computer for programing and interacting with their team.

This position may be asked to perform duties outside of their function or trade, for which adequate training will be provide is necessary.
